About
The D.A.S.H. Center for the Arts is a home for people to develop natural talent and acquire the skills necessary for a career in the performing arts. The goal of the D.A.S.H. Center is to provide training in all aspects of the performing arts. The Center will be a vehicle, primarily for African-American and other minority and at-risk youth to develop talent, confidence and self-esteem.
D.A.S.H. is an acronym for Dancing, Acting, and Singing in Harmony. While the D.A.S.H. Center's programming is available to and welcomes persons of all walks of life, its primary targets are African-American and other minority, inner city youth, who otherwise, would have less opportunity to explore and develop their creative abilities. For this reason the D.A.S.H. Center for the Arts is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. The Center facility will be the home for the active, community outreach organization, Reality Check Dance Troupe.
In under-privileged communities there tends to be a drive for many to "get out". There are different avenues used to do so. In Tacoma, the main avenue promoted to our kids is athletics. Basketball, football, and baseball are looked at as the "save-all" for our inner city youth. With the area having all three major sports teams, that is understandable. But what hope do we offer the youth who are not athletic? What about those who are artistic?
Your support is requested to help further D.A.S.H. Center programming. The D.A.S.H. Center and its programs increase access to the arts for all Pierce County residents, but especially those in underserved communities, by making dance, voice, and theatrical classes readily available and affordable to all. Programming designed and produced by the D.A.S.H. Center appeals to and targets persons who would not ordinarily attend Arts events. Through its programs such as, Reality Check , Club FAME, and its "dancicals" (musical productions, which combines acting and dancing), D.A.S.H. targets at-risk youth, ages 12-20, in Pierce and King counties, addressing situations and conflicts affecting them. Reality Check has grown to include a percentage of 7-11 year-olds, RCJuniors.
